About

I’m a technologist and systems architect with interest and experience in on-premises and cloud platforms. I have background as a lightweight web developer, a visual designer, a project manager, and a business developer, but my deepest experience is in the VMware SDDC and related products including vSphere, vRealize Operations, VMware Horizon, WorkspaceOne, AirWatch, and VMware NSX. I’ve done a load of project management over the last 10 years related to these and other technologies.

I’m a strong advocate of scripting automated solutions using PowerShell and PowerCLI, with experience in Bash, Perl, and some other scripting environments as well.

On the Cloud Platform side, I’ve been building in and using AWS since 2008 and Google Cloud Platform since 2011. I have experience with Docker since about 2012 and am just getting my hands into Kubernetes and Ansible. Look for upcoming posts about these topics.

I also have significant experience with TCP/IP networking across protocols, mostly on Layers 2/3. I’ve built and rebuilt networks on Cisco and other hardware and integrated multiple vendors.

My family is 7 strong–3 girls and 2 boys. We live in rural Alaska where the winters are long and the summers are amazing. I bow hunt caribou when I can in September/October and fish for salmon locally in July-August. Subsistence is the Alaska way.

Right now we’re wrapping up the short summer in Alaska, and winter is on the way.
